The castle was first constructed in the 16th century for the Marquis of Los Velez. The building has been well preserved and within the walls there are the Casa de la Tercia which houses the local Archaeological Museum, and the Palace of the Marqués de los Vélez now home to the Antonio Manuel Campoy Museum of Contemporary Art. The court yard is often used for concerts and performances. Open daily to visitors.
